BASICS OF FREESTYLE SWIMMING

Freestyle swimming, also known as front crawl, is the most popular and fastest swimming stroke.  It's essential to learn the basics of freestyle swimming to get started on your journey to becoming a proficient swimmer.  In this story, we'll take a deep dive into each component of the freestyle stroke and provide tips and tricks for perfecting your technique.

Body Position

Your body should be in a horizontal position, with your hips and legs close to the surface of the water. Keep your head in line with your spine and look straight down

Breathing

Inhale through your mouth as you turn your head to the side while your face is submerged in the water. Exhale through your mouth as your head returns to its original position.

Arm Movements

Start with your arms extended in front of your head, then pull down and back with your arm while rotating your hips. As your arm passes your hip, release it and bring it back to its initial position.

Flutter kick your legs alternately up and down to maintain momentum in the water. Keep your legs straight and relaxed, with your feet pointed outwards.
